Next Fall by Geoffrey Nauffts AUDITIONS

CHARACTERS:

Adam, 45, a substitute teacher. Cast

Luke, 30, an aspiring actor.

Luke is a thirty year old actor. He was raised in Tallahassee, but has lived in New York City for a long time. He has a vulnerability, innocence and gentle nature which should be embodied in an extremely likeable character. He struggles with his homosexuality and his religious convictions, this strains his relationship with Adam.

Looking for an actor with a playing age between 25-35. A classic American ‘actor type’ look. Luke was raised in Tallahassee, however his accent would have been neutralised during Drama School, so a Standard American accent with an occasional twang into Southern.

Holly, 35, a candle shop owner.

Holly is a warm, bubbly, generous person who is truly caring of the others around her. She has a slightly alternative, edgy vibe about her.

Looking for an actor with a playing age between 30-40 with good comic timing. We are open to her specific dialect, so any believable North Eastern or Mid Western American dialect can be considered.

Brandon, 30, a property developer.

Brandon is a success in life, however there is a touch of self loathing found in his character. Like Luke, Brandon has a strong religious conviction, although he has taken it to the next level where he has surrendered himself to never being happy in a relationship as he has never truly accepted himself or his sexuality.

Looking for an actor with a playing age between 25-35. Standard American accent.

Arlene, 50, a divorcee.

Arlene, Luke’s mother, is a vibrant, loving mother who, in any other situation, would be the life of the party. In the play, we see her in a time of terrible emotional stress, yet she still brings people together with her humour genuine care of others. She has had a tough life, having started a family early, having had trouble with the law, yet we get the feeling she sees herself as a glamorous Southern Belle.

Looking for an actor between 45-60 with exceptional comic timing and who can work with a believable, not stereotypical, Southern Accent required for this role.

Butch, 55, a businessman.

Butch, Luke’s Dad, is a strong representation of a good Conservative Christian Southern Father. There’s a genuine love that Butch has for his family, however, when the truth is put in front of him, he wears blinkers as a coping mechanism.

Looking for an actor with a playing age between 50-65 who can work with a believable, not stereotypical, Southern Accent required for this role.
